Early Life and Education

Born in December of the year 1950 in a place called Parappur, Thrissur, Kerala, Kochouseph did not have a privileged upbringing, that we can say for sure. He completed high school in the main city of Irinjalakuda and soon thereafter proceeded to acquire a Master’s degree in Physics from St. Thomas College, Thrissur. And just so you know, his very first job after studying was in the year 1973 when he was a supervisor in a telecommunication equipment manufacturing company named Telics. But sure, it was because of this particular experience period that he could draw from and he was eager to set up his own business in this very industry and do something different.

Founding and Growth of V-Guard Industries

It was in 1977 when Kochouseph launched V-Guard Industries with only ₹100,000, concentrating on developing voltage stabilizers, you know? And sure, initially intended for the domestic market, this was indeed the most crucial need, especially in those days when the electricity supply was neither constant nor reliable. Back then, with a small group of two employees and a modest production plant, he got going. V-Guard created a variety of products such as electric pumps, cables, solar water heaters, and home appliances over time, positioning itself as a leading name in the field of electrical goods.

As is the case with every great business, Kochouseph missed and succeeded with a fair share of the ups and downs. Like for instance, he encountered a serious situation of workers’ strike which affected the productivity in the company during the decade of the 80s. This was difficult to deal with but, instead, he preferred to be the one to react and accordingly, he made innovative avenues including outsourcing the production function while the company sought to still have quality in control.

Expansion into Amusement Parks and Real Estate

Knowing the fact that there is no rest in the business world, Kochouseph also directed his attention towards the entertainment sector. Like, it was in 2000 that he went on to set up Kerala’s first-ever water theme park, Veegaland, which today stands as Wonderla Kochi. He then paved the way for the Bengaluru branch where Wonderla is also a big hit among families in South India. Besides these, his ventures were not only limited to the entertainment sector, he also established a company called Veegaland Developers which develops residential apartment projects in Kochi.

All in all, Kochouseph’s various contributions in the fields of business and public service have resulted in him getting a lot of awards and honors, did you know that? But like what awards? Well, he was rewarded with Rashtriya Samman, as one of India’s top three taxpayers, and also won the “Newsmaker of the Year” title given by Malayalam Manorama in 2011. In 2022, he was awarded the coveted Kerala Sree Award, one of the most reputed recognitions in Kerala, you know?
